EXPLANATION OF ABSTRACTS AND INDEXING

Abstracts are written summaries of cases that have come before the Council.

These abstracts represent the attempt to keep the student body informed of the decisions made by and issues facing the Honor Council without compromising the confidentiality of the parties involved.

Starting during the 1992-1993 academic year, the Rice University Honor Council began compiling abstracts of cases electronically. The Honor Code has always required the writing and posting of abstracts, but until recently, the colleges and the library were the only places where they could be found.

Abstracts are stored with the year that the alleged violation occurred. Each year, cases concerning work done late in the spring semester are tried in the fall. These cases can be found in the year corresponding to the spring semester.

In January, 1996, these abstracts were moved from solely gopher access to this HTML interface. In the future, abstracts will be added to these pages more consistently and promptly.

The abstracts skip some numbers because cases that are dropped in the investigation are still assigned a number. From the 2004-2005 academic year onward, the Council has also published investigative abstracts where possible.
