Welcome

The Rice Honor System was created by students in 1912. That it has functioned so well for so long reflects the trust and respect that Rice students show to one another and the University. It is one of Rice’s most highly valued traditions and a vital part of your education–education in responsibility and integrity.

The Honor System provides flexibility to you in completing coursework and taking examinations. A signed pledge to uphold the code accompanies all student work. To function effectively, this system requires everyone’s commitment and active participation.

Please study the Honor Code and the role of the Honor Council so that you understand how they function, how to support them, and what happens in rare cases when violations may have occurred. Through your continuing investment in this Rice tradition, you, your fellow students, your teachers, and all members of the Rice community can continue to reap the benefits of the Honor System.
