Consensus Penalty Structure

For purposes of consistency, the Honor Council uses a document called the Consensus Penalty Structure (CPS) to guide its deliberation about what sanction should follow a given Honor Code violation. The CPS establishes a starting point for penalty deliberations based on the weight of the assignment at issue in calculating a student’s overall grade in the course where misconduct occurred. The Honor Council has liberty to deviate from the CPS, as circumstances warrant, on a case-by-case basis; the CPS document outlines some scenarios under which such a deviation may occur. The CPS is not a binding document, and authority ultimately lies with the Honor Council to determine penalties for each individual case.
